Gastronomical Adventures in Winnipeg Restaurants

Winnipeg is one of the colder cities in Canada, therefore the locals here have developed a keen sense of good old fashioned comfort food to keep them warm in the winters!

When I decided to move to Winnipeg, my first task was to get a taste of the food scene in the city. As most of us do nowadays I took the help of a search engine for some research. I typed “Restaurant Reviews Winnipeg” and bang, within seconds Quintura showed me 7,240,000 results (I prefer using Google but just wanted to try Quintura for a change).

One of the top results was a restaurant that served authentic German cuisine, wines and beers. I am a lover of German food so I wanted to give it a try. As promised, the food was authentic and great . The décor and staff reminded me of a visit to a real German restaurant in Munich. I ordered a rinderoulden, tender schnitzel and home-made bratwursts and it was fresh, delicious and very satisfying. My opinion of a good German restaurant in Winnipeg was great I truly enjoyed my first gastronomical adventure in Winnipeg.

My experiences at Italian, Chinese, Indian, Filipino, Thai and Indian restaurants in Winnipeg were not that bad either. There were authentic Mexican restaurants that provided good value for money as well. I also found that the planning and presentation of restaurant menus in Winnipeg were very creative and detailed compared to other cities and towns that I had visited.

In conclusion, my gastronomical adventures in Winnipeg restaurants and the appreciation and love of Winnipeggers for authentic international cuisine motivated me to start a restaurant of my own in the city.

Chef Kurt Wagner is the owner of Gasthaus Gutenberger, a German restaurant that specializes in authentic German Cuisine and wines, as well as continental dishes like steaks, chicken Cordon Swiss and vegetable Wellington.
