This book is now dated, but if you have never read about the development of the internet, nor understood how the heck it came about and its early development, you should read this book. It includes an Internet timeline. In 1957 when the USSR launched Sputnik, the USA responded by forming the Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) within the Department of Defense (DOD). And the history of the internet takes off.
Chapter 1: What is the Internet? Who owns it? Historical Review of the internet.
Chapter 3: The Domain Name System, IP addresses (what are octets?)
Chapter 15: A short history of MUDS
If you are an upcoming young techie, or an old non-techie that needs some internet background information, this is the book for you.
1258 numbered pages. The book is in good condition, soft cover, and does not have the discs that came with it: Net Cruiser and Chameleon. They wouldn't be of any use anyway. The book has water staining on the back pages, but it does not affect the printing. The covers show wear, not so much from being read, but due to its huge size - from being in and out of storage shelves and boxes.
I purchased this book June 16, 1995 at a Waldenbooks for $39.99.
Page from the book:
Dimensions: 7-1/2 x 9 x 2-5/16 inches. The book weighs 4-3/4 pounds.
This auction is for one soft cover book as described above. The photos are of the exact book being auctioned.
